“You changed it,” Daniel said.
I folded the letter.
“Robert did.”
“You manipulated him.”
“He recorded the signing.”
Daniel froze.
Of course Robert recorded it.
He had been married to a forensic accountant for forty-six years.

The video showed Robert seated in his study with his attorney and two witnesses.

Thin.
Perfectly lucid.
He explained the amendment in his own words.
Then, near the end, he looked directly into the camera.
“If Daniel never crosses that line, none of this matters. I hope he never does.”
He coughed.
Then continued.
“But if he tries to use Eleanor’s age, grief, or health to steal control from her, he receives nothing from me.”
Daniel lowered himself into his chair.
