Adrian looked surprised.
“Sir, shouldn’t you at least—”
“I’ll deal with it later.”
His voice was flat, clinical, the same tone he used when approving layoffs or rejecting acquisition offers. Whatever Claire had left behind, it could wait.
She always waited for him. As Ethan walked back toward the elevator, the nurse called after him.
“Mr. Caldwell.”
He stopped without turning around.
“Your wife stayed here for eight days.”
Silence.
“She had complications after the delivery.”
He nodded once.
