“He has been testing you for eight months.”
I stared at him.
“What do you mean, testing me?”
“He gave you confidential files and watched to see whether you shared them. He had extra money offered to you to see whether you would take it. He watched whether you repeated private conversations to other employees.”
I stood up, furious.
“So this whole time I was being tested?”
“Yes. And I think he handled it very badly.”
The lawyer turned another document toward me.
“But last night, he made his final decision.”
I looked down.Director of Trust and Compliance.
The salary was nearly three times what I currently made.
On top of that, he had placed my name on the company’s internal oversight board.
“Is this some kind of joke?”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
