It had worked before. It didn’t work this time.
Every board member had already received the forensic report before entering the room. No one smiled.
No one exchanged casual conversation. The chairman opened the meeting without ceremony.
“We’ll begin immediately.”
He looked toward Ethan.
“Did you authorize these transactions?”
“No.”
“Can you explain why your signature appears on every approval?”
“I believe someone accessed my credentials.”
The chairman nodded.
“We considered that possibility.”
He pressed a button on the conference table. Another document appeared on the screen.
Security logs. Every approval had been completed from Ethan’s office using his biometric login on days he had been physically present.
Ethan felt the room closing around him.
“I don’t remember signing these.”
One director finally spoke.
“Not remembering isn’t the same as not doing it.”
Then the conference room doors opened. Everyone turned.
